Astro Boy, Leo from Jungle Emperor Leo, and various other characters created by Osamu Tezuka will help foster children’s intellectual curiosity. Tezuka is renowned as a pioneer in creating story-based manga in the postwar period, and is often referred to as the “God of Manga.” Following his debut as a manga artist in 1946 with his work “Maachan no Nikkicho,” Tezuka remained in the forefront of the manga world for more than 40 years, creating over 700 works during his career. He is also celebrated as an animation author, with all of his works depicting the preciousness of life and frequently exploring themes such as “future,” “science,” and “life.”

Tomohiro HoshiHead of Stanford Online High School, doctor of philosophy, and an EdTech consultant.

Born in Tokyo in 1977, Hoshi graduated from the Faculty of Letters at the University of Tokyo, with a major in philosophy, in 2001. One year later, he went to the United States to pursue his master’s degree in philosophy at Texas A&M University. After obtaining his doctoral degree in philosophy from Stanford University in 2008, he became a lecturer at the university and participated in a project to launch Stanford Online High School. He has served as its principal since 2016. He is recognized as a prominent global leader in online education.

Etsuko IchiharaArtist, “Fantasy Inventor”

Ichihara is an artist and a self-proclaimed “fantasy inventor.” She interprets Japanese culture, customs and faith from her own perspective and presents new ways of observing them with the use of technology. Ichihara has received an international award and attracted global attention for her unique designs expressing Japanese culture, as well as for works that are out of this world and widely enjoyable. She has also received the Excellence Award in the Entertainment Division of the 20th Japan Media Arts Festival, which was sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and Honorary Mention in PRIX Ars Electronica 2018. Her latest exhibitions include “Roppongi Crossing 2022: Coming & Going” (Mori Art Museum).
